Our scholars are always growing, learning, and showing the amazing things they can accomplish. With hard work and dedication, Ocean, a sixth grader at AF Apollo Middle, grew THREE levels in his math state exams. We sat down with Ocean to learn more about his growth and future plans. Tell us about yourself! I’m in sixth grade. I like to play video games, and I like to read. My favorite series is the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” I think “Rodrick Rules” is my favorite book. What is your favorite part about school? I love recess and literature. I like literature because I get to know more information about what’s happening in the real world. And math, that’s my second favorite because I like to learn about number lines and fractions. That’s amazing! We heard you grew three levels in your math state exams. How did you feel when you got your test results? I felt great! I think I could do even better next time. This year I focused, and I ignored everything that distracted me. I thought about the lesson and all those equations. At home, I studied with my stepdad. What advice would you give other students who want to improve in school? I would tell them to focus. And practice as much as you can so you can have a high grade and be intelligent and wise. That’s great advice. Why do you think that’s important? It’s important because when we’re in college and we enter the real world, we have to think wisely about our decisions. So what’s next for you? What do you want to be when you grow up? First I wanted to be a YouTuber, but now I want to be a vet because I like animals. And I have a cat named Brownie in my house. She gave birth to five kittens. Their names are Simba, Sugar, Caramel, Hershey, and Moonlight. We’re keeping some and sending some to people we know. That’s very generous! Thank you for chatting with us Ocean.
