Shamel Duncan is the current principal at AF East New York Middle School, bringing over 12 years of experience in education. It is somewhat of a full circle moment for him because he started his Achievement First career here as a behavior specialist in 2013. Serving as principal of AF East New York Middle School is deeply connected to his personal why. He is dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.
Shamel holds a bachelor’s degree from Morris College. His journey in education began at his alma, Boys & Girls High School, where he discovered a passion for supporting students and helping them reach their full potential. Under his leadership, East New York Middle School has seen consistent year-over-year academic gains in ELA, Math, & Science State Test Performance. East New York Middle School emphasizes academic rigor, creativity, and character development. Shamel believes in the importance of collaboration among teachers, parents, and the community to create a strong foundation for student success.
In addition to his commitment to education, Shamel enjoys traveling, photography, and spending time with his family. He is thrilled to be part of the East New York Middle School community and looks forward to an exciting year ahead!
