We will start school remotely in NYC on September 1. In NYC, we made this decision for two reasons. First, we have not been able to get access to all of our NYCDOE buildings – and it’s increasingly clear that we will not be able to get sufficient access before our planned start date. In CT and RI, we have greater access to our buildings, so this is not as much of a challenge for us. Second, given that our school calendar begins earlier than our local districts in NY, we felt that we had the flexibility to make this decision on our own without state approval. In both CT and RI – and especially in RI where the Governor has set the school calendar for next year through an Executive Order (including in-person and remote days) – we do not have the same operational autonomy.
Our high schools are still finalizing their rotation schedule. Please note that the start and end times are not finalized, are for example purposes only, and may vary by school. We are still working with our districts, bus companies, and co-located schools, and school communities to finalize timing.
