Shalia Garnett is the principal of Achievement First Bridgeport Academy Elementary School. Since joining Achievement First in 2017 as a Relay Resident, she has served the Bridgeport community in a variety of roles, including kindergarten teacher, second grade teacher, Academic Dean, Interim Principal, and Principal. Through each role, she has remained committed to ensuring all scholars experience academic excellence, joy, and a strong sense of belonging.
Ms. Garnett is passionate about creating vibrant school communities where scholars thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. She believes strong partnerships among families, staff, and scholars are the foundation of student success and is committed to developing educators, fostering student leadership, and creating opportunities for scholars to explore their talents beyond the classroom. Under her leadership, AF Bridgeport Elementary launched its first after-school programs. She is also the co-founder and one of the current facilitators of the Elite Dance & Step Team, which continues to captivate audiences at the school’s annual showcases.
Ms. Garnett earned her bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and her master’s degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport. She is proud to serve the Bridgeport community and is dedicated to helping every scholar reach their full potential.
