School Leader

Heather Wachter is the principal of Achievement First Bridgeport Academy Elementary. Since 2004, she has worked to close the achievement gap as an educator in public charter schools, traditional district schools and magnet schools in Connecticut and New York. Ms. Wachter joined Achievement First Bridgeport Academy Elementary as a founding academic dean in 2010. She began her career teaching second grade at P.S. 325 in New York. After returning to Connecticut to be closer to her family, Ms. Wachter joined the Achievement First “Team & Family” at Elm City College Prep Elementary in New Haven, where she serve as a second-grade teacher, grade level chair and teacher coach. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and managing communication from Southern Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in remedial reading from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is committed to improving educational outcomes for children  and leading AF Bridgeport Academy Elementary to excellence.
