Zoe Sumner is Principal of Achievement First Ujima High School. Zoe brings over eight years of experience at Achievement First, during which she has grown through numerous instructional leadership roles, from Teacher in Residence and Grade Team Lead to Curriculum Writer, Leadership Fellow, Dean of School Culture, Academic Dean of Humanities, Principal Fellow, and Principal in Residence.
Her background spans both academics and culture, giving her a uniquely comprehensive lens on what it takes to build a high school where every student is seen, challenged, and supported. Zoe holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Stony Brook University and a Master of Arts in Education and Sociology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
During her time as a dean, Zoe increased assessment scores by at least 10% across all content areas and maintained a suspension rate below 5% across three consecutive years. Known for her deep Brooklyn roots, her commitment to developing others, and her belief that high school is the last opportunity a school has to truly prepare young people for the world, Zoe brings both personal passion and proven results to this role.
