To support our alumni in their transition from college to the professional arena, the Alumni Program continues to develop its career services offerings. Currently, the Alumni Program provides summer internship opportunities, cover letter and resume writing workshops, and interviewing skills workshops.

Summer Internship Program

Our Summer Internship Program prepares students for higher learning by providing work experience and supplemental training and education. Internships are paid and are provided by businesses and institutions throughout the greater New Haven area. Volunteer and partner organizations are essential to the vitality of the Alumni Program’s internship and career development opportunities. Program Objectives

• Help alumni gain experience in various disciplines while learning how to become community leaders, organization leaders and business leaders
• Identify, develop and apply the work readiness skills and practices consistent with being a productive worker
• Provide education and training around improving critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal relationship and team-building skills

Program Elements

In addition to on-site work, alumni attend three off-site workshops over the course of the summer and are expected to complete reading and homework assignments. This off-site learning includes:

• Targeting personal and professional strengths and weaknesses through self-assessment and feedback tools
• Reviewing leadership skills
• Improving dependability and teamwork by practicing listening skills, interview skills and other typical workplace situations

During the course of the program, the Alumni Program team checks in regularly with site supervisors and interns. Additionally, site supervisors are asked to complete evaluations at the end of the program to provide feedback on interns and our internship program.
