Achievement First is always looking for talented teachers, deans and principals to join our growing network. We currently run 17 high-performing, college-preparatory public charter schools in Brooklyn, NY, and New Haven, Bridgeport and Hartford, CT.

While the specific timeline of the application process varies by person, the information below provides an outline of the interview process for school-based faculty.

Teachers and Deans

Application Process

We accept applications on a rolling basis, and we encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. In order to apply or to see our open positions, click the Apply button on the right where you can submit your resume and complete our online application. Our recruitment team reviews all completed applications, and we will respond within seven business days.

Phone interview: Selected applicants will participate in a phone interview with a member of our recruitment team. We will focus on your previous experience and the content of your application.

In-person interview/demonstration lesson: If we determine your skills and experiences are a good fit for the position, you will be invited to teach a demonstration lesson and participate in an in-person interview at one of our schools. Your 25-40 minute demonstration lesson will take place during the school day in an Achievement First school. During this time, you will have the opportunity to observe in our schools, and you will interview with members of the school-based faculty and recruitment team.

Reference check: On your online application you will be asked to submit the names of three references. A member of our recruitment team will contact your references at some point during the process. We will notify you before contacting any of your references.

Principal or Principal-in-Residence

Application Process

If you are interested in being an Achievement First principal, please view our open positions for principals or principals-in-residence. Then, log in to our online application system and upload your resume. Please do not fill out the rest of our online teacher application. If your qualifications are a match for the position, we will send you an application.

Phone interview: Selected applicants will participate in a phone interview with a member of our recruitment team. We will focus on your previous experience and the content of your application.

Selected applicants will participate in a second-round phone interview with a senior member of the Achievement First team.

In-person interview: If it is determined that you are a good fit for our schools, you will be invited to participate in an interview day at one of our schools and/or invited to a selection weekend. Over the course of one to two days, you will participate in a variety of interviews that will focus on your leadership skills, classroom and school expectations, and instructional eye. You will also teach a 25-30 minute demonstration lesson.

Follow-up interview: After the in-person interview day, a member of the interview team may conduct a follow-up interview.
