A Student’s Story: Exploring Physics at Yale

Category: News, Home

Wid is an AF Amistad High senior. For his summer program, Wid worked with the physics department at Yale University. To read more about our students’ experiences with summer programs, click here.

My time at Yale this summer was more than just an internship—it was a learning experience.  My supervisors went out of their way to make my experience as enjoyable as possible: the most exciting part was taking tours of all the labs and seeing all the research that goes on—like trying to find dark matter. I also got to do an experiment that involved freezing a conductor with liquid nitrogen and having a magnet levitate over it. Since I entered high school, I had my mind set on pursuing computer engineering in college, but after my internship, I’m now considering physics as well. In addition to exploring a new field, this internship also helped me improve my ability to work with other people. My teammates and I worked together to solve different problems we encountered during our time there, like when we worked on a demonstration for the physics lab webpage. Overall, my experience at the internship was so valuable, and I’m looking forward to applying what I learned.
